Twitter Toolbox Firefox Extension
Twitter Toolbox is a new Firefox and Flock browser extension I just wrote that "lives" in browser's sidebar and will show you:
- Fr[iends] - Vi[ewers] = you are following them, but they don't see you;
- Fr[iends] & Vi[ewers] = you both follow each other and can talk via Twitter @replies
- Vi[ewers] - Fr[iends] = they've added you as a friends, you have not [yet].
Download / Install Twitter Toolbox
"Viewers" is another name for Followers and allows to abbreviate these terms. "Fr - Fo" or "F - F" looks more confusing to me.
Important: this tool does not duplicate a simple friends or followers list. Many tools already do that, as does Twitter's home page.
Instead - Twitter Toolbox shows what's different and what's common to these two lists. See a quote below for a use case. If you know how to explain this in 140 chars or less, please tell me.
Twitter: let me see a differential list of those I follow and those who follow me, both ways.
I need to know who is following me that I’m not following (maybe I missed somebody out) and who I’m following but they’re not (to keep in mind they won’t see stuff I twitter).
Instructions:
Activate it via a menu "View -> Sidebar -> Twitter Toolbox" or via a keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Shift-T (Cmd-Shift-T). Once you see the list, click any of the names to display their Twitter page in a new tab.
First time the sidebar panel is opened Firefox may ask for your Twitter username and password. This information is managed by Firefox.
There's one thing that would be nice if Twitter added - a way to tell who in the list of last updates on your Twitter homepage is following you and who is not. Sure, you can use Twitter Toolbox to look it up, but I'd like to see it instantly if it makes sense to @reply to a person or not.
P.S. This is an early development, it does the job and that's it. Plus I tried to make user lists look good.
Please leave suggestions and bug reports in comments to this post.

... aside from the fact that it isn't quite accurate - It says I have "25 Followers, but not friends" and has on that list the 4 people I follow, point to and direct most often"
Is friend the same as Following? Great idea though.
Don't know if you are still supporting the effort, but I do have a question.
How does your implementation handle a Twitterer who has their Tweets protected? I think this is symbolized by the little red lock at the top of their profile page.
I ask because I follow Beth, Beth follows me. However, Beth is listed on the last tab, Followers, but not Friends. She should be on the middle tab, Friends and Followers. I wonder if this is because her Tweets are protected, or if there might be another reason.
Thanks again for helping me check that I am following those that I want to and of course seeing who is not following me *darn*.
Jim.
I am supporting the Twitter Toolbox extension. Will look into the situation you pointed to and see why it happens. Currently I am traveling and therefore it may take a week or so before I can investigate it in detail.
Thanks,
Uldis
Re. "Friends" and "Followers" - Twitter used these terms before they gave up on using "Friends" due to people putting too much meaning into the word. "Friends" = "Following" :)
I also used "Vi[ewers]" instead of "Followers" because otherwise those look too similar when abbreviated in the title of a tab containing the list (e.g., "Fr-Fo" or "F-F").
Twitter's list name change ("Friends" -> "Following") makes it even more difficult to abbreviate both terms ("Fo - Fo"?). Could you suggest how to abbreviate names of these lists so that those abbreviations do not clash?
Best,
Uldis
The reason I am asking is because the Twitter Toolbox as it is now is somewhat limited due to the result size limitations of Twitter's API. You can only get so many results in one reply and need to send multiple queries in case if you have more than 100 friends or followers.
Updating the extension to work with FF 3.0 is not a problem but if making a new version then I would also want to work around these limitations.
You are right.
I did not realise the limitations of the program as it is now.
Including the improvement, I would be definitely interested in it, I have not found another way to find out who I am following that is not following me.

I was not sure if to continue development when Twitter introduced rate limiting which meant more requests are needed to retrieve all of friends and followers information. Would probably be OK for people with less than 2K friends and followers, though.
