Happy Birthday, David Bowie !!!

David Bowie celebrates his 60th birthday today. Congratulations!!! B)

He is one of the most dynamic musicians of the last (and this) century. I've always been amazed by his ability to change, adapt to new times and come up with new ideas. While he has made many appearances (e.g., playing the king of goblins in a cult movie "Labyrinth") one of my favorites parts is the action/quest game "Omikron: The Nomad Soul" which he composed a whole album for:

1999's "Hours" featured "What's Really Happening", the lyrics for which were written by Alex Grant, the winner of Bowie's "Cyber Song Contest" Internet competition.

That same year also found Bowie composing the soundtrack for a computer game called "Omikron: The Nomad Soul". David Bowie and his wife, Iman, made appearances as characters in the game.

Omikron remains one of the best computer games I've ever played.

You can find many more interesting facts about David Bowie on Wikipedia.

Some of my favorite songs by David Bowie:

  • "Space Oddity" (1969)
  • "Absolute Beginners" (1986)
  • Album "Hours" (1999) a.k.a. the soundtrack for "Omikron: The Nomad Soul"

If you like Bowie's music, what are your favorites?

I've been watching Labyrinth tonight to celebrate Bowie's birthday, because that was my first exposure to him. My obsession began with that soundtrack so that's one of my favourites. I'd have to say if I were forced to pick some favourite songs they would be Fashion, Hello Spaceboy, and John I'm Only Dancing.

All my life ive listend to many singers and seen many actors but never found someone who made me wanna jump up and scream "Pure Beauty"!!! Until one day my older sister sat me down in front of our living room tv and said "Ive found a movie I use to watch when i was your age and I want you to wacth it with me." She told me a singer who was big in the 80s was in it and the movie is called The Labrinth. At first i said it would be boring, but how I was wrong. After only 5 minutes my sister got fed up and left but when it was over I started crying. My mom came in saying what was wrong and I said in a small weak voice..."Who is the man in that movie?" Than my mom said the most beautifulest words in history.....DAVID BOWIE. I stayed up all night wacthing Labrinth and soon after that Im now a BIG David Bowie fan. My favourite song by him is Lets Dance and the songs from Labrinth. Im sure Ziggy is probley REALLY tired of people telling him how great he was in Labrinth but if he never did that movie I wouldint be what I am today. In my old school I was SOOOO bad at english but when when I went to a new school I did a project on David and now im in honours english! And before i knew Ziggys songs everyone would say I was a horrible singer and dancer. It really hurt me. But just a few months ago I sang Underground from the Labrinth and someone put me in a talent show and I sang Dancing in the Streets and danced my best like David and WON!!!!!! So I just wanna say thank you Ziggy and happy birthday. Thank you.

I'v been a Bowie fan ever since I was in 1st grade. My dad brought Labyrinth home and I completly fell in love with David. I love him ssssooooo much! I even did a project about him for fun and my mom said if it was for school, I would have gotten an A++++. My favorite album is Let's Dance and Modern Love is my favorite song, but I think all of his songs are amazing! He is my hero!
